On the behavioral level, significant correlations were found between phonetic coding ability, English pronunciation skills, musical experience, and language aptitude as measured by the MLAT. Furthermore, working memory capacity and musical ability were assessed to reveal their relationship with foreign language aptitude. The subjects' language aptitude was measured by three different tests, namely a Hindi speech imitation task (phonetic coding ability), an English pronunciation assessment, and the Modern Language Aptitude Test (MLAT). In this study, the auditory cortices of German-speaking individuals ( N = 30 13 males/17 females aged 20-40 years) with high and low scores in a number of language aptitude tests were compared.
The main aim of the present study was to explore the extent to which foreign language aptitude, in particular phonetic coding ability, is influenced by the morphology of Heschl's gyrus (HG auditory cortex), working memory capacity, and musical ability. Reminder: There is no audition required for the Bachelor of Arts program. Through this portal, you will be asked a question, be given prep time, and then have a set amount of time to respond. The online interview for the Bachelor of Arts program is hosted through a digital platform called Kira Talent. Watch in-depth videos on how to set up your space for and complete your online audition and interview. To learn where and when we are traveling, visit the audition and interview event calendar. Please do not make travel arrangements until you have confirmed your audition and interview assignment. You must confirm your assigned audition and interview time immediately or your space will be given to another qualified applicant. This is also where you will confirm your scheduled audition and interview. Once scheduled, your date, time, and venue information will be posted in your applicant portal (under the Next Steps tab). Locations and online slots sometimes fill up quickly, and you may be scheduled for an alternate option. We request that you check in 30 minutes prior to your scheduled time to ensure you have the proper setup. Once it’s time for you to begin, we will guide you through the entire experience, which includes a 15-minute audition and a 15-minute interview. The Bachelor of Music audition and interview process takes about one hour after you check in.
